Carla J. Greenbaum, MD, is a Member of the Benaroya Research Institute, where she serves as the Director of the BRI Diabetes Program, the Clinical Research Center, and the Diabetes Clinical Research Unit. At BRI she is a member of the Institutional Review Board, Management Advisory Committee, Clinical Research Advisory Group and Clinical Research Steering Committee. She received her undergraduate ('78) and medical ('81) degrees at Brown University, and pursued her endocrinology fellowship at University of Washington.

Dr. Greenbaum has been a leader in clinical investigations and trials to prevent or intervene with the diabetes autoimmune process. She currently serves as Director of the North American Network for the NIH sponsored Type 1 Diabetes Genetics Consortium. She is Vice-Chair of the NIH sponsored Diabetes TrialNet study group as well as principal investigator of the TrialNet Northwest Clinical Site. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Diabetes Vaccine Development Center (Australia) and the Clinical Affairs Advisory Committee for JDRF as well as many review committees. She is on the Clinical Trials Advisory Group and Scientific Review Committee of the NIH sponsored Immune Tolerance Network, and serves as Secretary of the international Immunology of Diabetes Society.
